How does a gas spring work?
A gas spring is a lightweight metal tube with in the thick tube a part of gas, a seal, some oil and another seal. The oil keeps the gas in the metal sleeve (piston housing), keeping the spring at pressure. The pressure is indicated in Newton. On the spring is a type number with some spaces and then a capital N (from Newton).

How does a gas spring work properly? The gas presses against a piston which is attached to the thin rod, this is called a piston rod. The piston rod should always face downward when the unit is in the closed position. This prevents the seals from drying out and the oil from running out of the sleeve. Are you going to buy and replace a gas compression spring? Then make sure it is assembled properly. You can find several videos on the Internet where a step-by-step assembly plan is given.

If a gas spring is broken, you will notice it because the flap or door is more difficult to open. By replacing the gas spring, the appliance or furniture can be used for years again. Springs that are broken usually have oil on the piston shaft (thin rod) or move differently than normal. This means the seal is leaking, causing gas to leak out of the spring. Ordering the same type number listed on the spring will ensure that the connections and pressure are the same.

Difference between gas compression springs and gas traction springs
Gas compression and tension springs are used for such things as beds with adjustable backs, kitchen cabinets, chests, kitchen cabinets, cars, shutters, valves, office chairs and heavy lids or doors. If force is needed to slide something apart, such as a footboard of a reclining fortuille, a gas pull spring is used. If force is needed to push something closed, such as a tanning bed or the tailgate of a car, gas compression springs are used.

Elevator o Mat gas springs
The Lift o Mat is the most common type and can have pressures from 1N to as high as 4000 Newtons. The higher the number of Newton, the heavier the spring. The Lift o mat gas springs always work the same way. The springs are pressurized and when the piston rod is depressed, the cylinder is given resistance by the gas so it keeps trying to push the piston rod out. Our Stabilus Lift o Mat gas springs are the most commonly sold because they are found in many pieces of furniture. But we also have springs from Hahn and Kesseböhmer.

Bloc o Lift gas springs
The Bloc o Lift usually have an eyelet on 1 side and a thread on 1 side with some kind of valve mechanism. Pulling a lever releases the spring from the brake and allows it to extend or retract. After releasing the lever, the Bloc o elevator locks and stays in this position.
